Target: U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ICE, California Governor, and Monrovia City Officials
Goal: We call for an immediate halt to aggressive ICE raids, increased transparency, and the protection of day laborers and immigrant communities from dangerous and discriminatory enforcement tactics.
On Thursday, a man lost his life after fleeing an ICE raid at a Home Depot in Monrovia, California—a location where many day laborers gather seeking honest work. The man, reportedly running from armed and masked ICE agents, was struck by a vehicle on a busy freeway and later died from his injuries. This tragedy is the direct result of aggressive immigration enforcement tactics that create panic and endanger lives.
These raids, which have increased in frequency and intensity, target places where undocumented people seek work and have been criticized for racial profiling and violating civil rights. Despite a federal court order to halt such patrols in several counties, ICE continues to operate with little transparency or accountability. Local communities are left in fear, and tragedies like this are becoming all too common.
We demand justice for the victim and immediate action to prevent further loss of life. Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and respect, regardless of immigration status.
