Goal: Our goal is to demand immediate legislative and executive action to safeguard democratic institutions, prevent the abuse of law enforcement agencies, and ensure the protection of civil liberties for all people in the United States.
For generations, Americans have pledged allegiance to a nation 'with liberty and justice for all.' Yet recent years have seen an alarming rise in authoritarian rhetoric and practices, threatening the very foundation of our democracy. The normalization of extremist language, scapegoating of marginalized groups, and the expansion of federal law enforcement powers—such as those wielded by ICE—are reminiscent of the darkest chapters in world history.
Unchecked, these trends risk transforming America into a nation where dissent is punished, surveillance is pervasive, and political opponents are targeted. The creation of secretive police forces, rapid deployment of military units against civilians, and the seizure of local police control by federal authorities are all hallmarks of authoritarian regimes.
We cannot allow history to repeat itself. We call on our elected leaders and public officials to take decisive action to protect democratic norms, end the militarization of law enforcement, and restore accountability and transparency to government agencies. The future of our democracy depends on our willingness to stand up to authoritarianism in all its forms.
