Target: President of the United States, US Trade Representative, US Congress
Goal: We call on the US government to immediately end punitive tariffs on Indian imports, pursue fair and constructive trade negotiations, and respect India's right to independent foreign policy decisions.
The United States has recently imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, citing India's continued purchase of Russian oil. This punitive action not only undermines fair trade but also places undue economic strain on millions of workers, farmers, and small businesses in both India and the US. Tariffs of this magnitude increase prices for consumers, disrupt supply chains, and threaten livelihoods.
Furthermore, singling out India for its trade with Russia while the US and EU continue to import Russian goods is hypocritical and damages international trust. India, as the world's largest democracy, deserves respect for its independent foreign policy decisions. Punitive economic measures are not the solution to complex geopolitical issues and only serve to deepen divides.
We urge US policymakers to end these unfair tariffs, engage in good-faith dialogue, and work towards global solutions that prioritize peace, economic justice, and international cooperation.
