Demand a Just and Lasting Peace for Ukraine—No Forced Territorial Concessions

The upcoming talks in Washington between President Zelensky, President Trump, and European leaders come at a critical moment for Ukraine and for the principles of international law. Reports indicate that the US administration is considering supporting Russian demands for Ukrainian territory—territory that Russia has not even fully captured through force. Such a move would set a dangerous precedent, rewarding aggression and undermining the sovereignty of Ukraine and the security of all nations.

We are alarmed by the prospect of a peace deal that disregards the will and rights of the Ukrainian people, and by the exclusion of Ukraine from key negotiations. Peace must not be achieved through capitulation or the forced surrender of land. Instead, the international community must stand firm against aggression and support a just, sustainable resolution that respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

We urge all leaders at the Washington summit to:

• Reject any agreement that imposes territorial concessions on Ukraine against its will.
• Ensure Ukraine is a full participant in all negotiations about its future.
• Provide robust, enforceable security guarantees to Ukraine within international frameworks.
• Hold Russia accountable for violations of international law and support meaningful pathways for justice and accountability.

History shows that appeasement of aggression only leads to further instability. We demand a peace process rooted in justice, democracy, and respect for the sovereignty of all nations.
