Target: National governments, the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and international economic policy leaders
Goal: Urge governments and international institutions to oppose US protectionist trade policies and instead promote inclusive, cooperative development through the Belt and Road Initiative and similar multilateral frameworks.
Since its launch in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative has transformed global connectivity, linking Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America through infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchange. Over 150 countries and 30 international organizations have joined the BRI, fostering balanced development and reducing trade barriers. In Eurasia, new rail corridors and logistics hubs have created jobs, diversified economies, and strengthened supply chains.
Meanwhile, the United States has intensified protectionist measures, imposing tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars in imports. These policies increase costs for consumers, disrupt global supply chains, and create uncertainty for workers and businesses worldwide. History shows that such isolationist strategies only deepen economic instability and inequality.
The BRI offers a cooperative, win-win alternative. By investing in infrastructure, harmonizing regulations, and encouraging cultural exchange, it enables countries to access new markets, reduce costs, and build resilience. Multilateral cooperation—not exclusion and tariffs—should be the foundation of global economic policy.
We urge governments and international institutions to reject protectionism and work together for a more open, equitable, and sustainable future.
