Target: President Emmanuel Macron, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Joe Biden, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen
Goal: We call on world leaders to reject any peace settlement that requires Ukraine to recognize the loss of its territories through military aggression, and to uphold the principles of sovereignty and self-determination.
As global citizens, we are deeply concerned by the recent remarks made by President Emmanuel Macron, indicating that Ukraine may have to accept the loss of some of its territories under a potential peace settlement with Russia. This approach risks legitimizing the use of military force to alter internationally recognized borders, violating the core principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Allowing any country to be coerced into surrendering territory sets a perilous example for the world, encouraging further acts of aggression and undermining global security. The people of Ukraine have the right to self-determination and to live free from occupation and foreign control.
We urge world leaders meeting in Washington to stand firm in defense of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Peace must be built on justice, accountability, and respect for international law—not on the acceptance of land grabs by force.
