Target: European Commission, European Parliament, and National Governments of EU Member States
Goal: We call on the European Commission and national governments to urgently invest in European technology providers, support open-source software adoption, and enact policies that ensure true digital sovereignty for all EU residents.
Europe's reliance on US technology giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon for cloud computing, software, and digital infrastructure puts our public services, sensitive data, and democratic institutions at risk. Recent events have shown that political tensions can threaten access to essential online services, with the International Criminal Court's email access incident serving as a stark warning.
Despite the existence of European providers and open-source alternatives, they lack the scale and support to compete with US firms. This is not just a matter of economic competitiveness, but of sovereignty, security, and the right to self-determination in the digital age.
We urge European leaders to take decisive action. By investing in local tech, mandating the use of European and open-source solutions for public services, and creating a unified digital market, Europe can protect its citizens, foster innovation, and ensure that our digital future is not held hostage by foreign interests.
