Target: President of the United States, FEMA, Wisconsin Governor, Wisconsin Congressional Delegation, Department of Homeland Security
Goal: We call on the President, FEMA, and state officials to immediately declare a federal disaster, unlock federal aid, and reform insurance policies to protect all homeowners from future climate-driven disasters.
In the wake of catastrophic flooding across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, and Ozaukee Counties, thousands of Wisconsin families are struggling to recover. Many, like the Danowski family in West Allis, have lost nearly everything—furniture, appliances, and even the basic safety of their homes. Insurance companies routinely deny claims for flood damage, leaving families with six-figure losses and no recourse.
Only a small fraction of Wisconsinites have access to flood insurance, and federal disaster aid is only available if the President issues a disaster declaration. With climate change fueling more frequent and severe storms, this crisis is not a one-time event—it is a warning of what’s to come.
We demand immediate action to support the victims of this disaster and to reform our broken insurance system so that no family is left behind after the next storm.
