Target: President Donald Trump, U.S. Congress, and international diplomatic bodies
Goal: Ensure that all peace negotiations regarding Ukraine are inclusive, transparent, and respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The recent Alaska summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended without a ceasefire deal for Ukraine. Troublingly, the talks reportedly involved discussions about Ukraine’s territory—specifically, proposals for Ukraine to relinquish the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions—without Ukraine’s direct involvement. This approach undermines Ukraine’s sovereignty and right to self-determination, and sets a dangerous precedent for international relations.
As President Trump prepares to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, it is critical that the U.S. and all international actors commit to genuine, inclusive negotiations that center Ukrainian voices and uphold international law. Peace must not come at the expense of justice, democracy, or the rights of those most affected by war.
We call on U.S. leaders and the international community to reject any peace process that sidelines Ukraine, to increase diplomatic pressure for a just ceasefire, and to ensure that any agreement respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the will of its people.
