Goal: We call for the immediate end to federal control over D.C.'s police and the withdrawal of the National Guard from the nation's capital.
The decision by President Trump, with the full support of former Vice President Mike Pence, to place Washington, D.C.'s police department under federal control and deploy the National Guard is a dangerous escalation that threatens the democratic rights of residents and protesters. Federal intervention in local law enforcement undermines the authority of elected officials in D.C., disregards the will of the people, and sets a troubling precedent for the use of military force against civilians.
We believe that public safety and the right to protest can and must be protected without resorting to federal takeovers or military deployments. The use of federal power to suppress dissent and override local governance is incompatible with democratic values and the principles of self-determination.
We urge all concerned citizens to join us in demanding an immediate end to these actions and a restoration of local control in Washington, D.C.
