Target: President Donald Trump, US Congress, and US State Department
Goal: Ensure that any US-brokered security guarantees for Ukraine are developed transparently, uphold international law, and protect the rights and sovereignty of Ukraine without sacrificing justice or enabling further aggression.
Recent reports indicate that the US administration is considering offering NATO-like security guarantees to Ukraine as part of ongoing negotiations with Russia and European leaders. While security for Ukraine is essential, we are deeply concerned that these talks are happening behind closed doors, with little input from Ukrainian civil society, human rights organizations, or the broader public.
Any agreement that determines Ukraine’s future must:
- Respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, without legitimizing illegal occupations or forced border changes.
- Be negotiated transparently, with meaningful participation from Ukrainian civil society and international human rights observers.
- Reject any concessions that would reward aggression or set a precedent for the use of force to redraw borders.
- Include robust mechanisms for accountability and enforcement, ensuring that all parties adhere to international law and human rights standards.
We call on US leaders to reject secretive, top-down deals and instead champion a just, democratic, and lasting peace for Ukraine and all people affected by this conflict.
