End the Militarization of D.C.: Protect Civil Liberties and Immigrant Rights

Related Article: Over 300 arrested during 10 days of federal law enforcement in DC - thenationaldesk.com - Sunday, August 17, 2025, 5:59:28 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Target: The White House, U.S. Department of Justice, and D.C. Mayor's Office

Goal: We call for an immediate end to the federal militarization of Washington, D.C., the withdrawal of National Guard troops, and the protection of immigrant and community rights.

Recent federal law enforcement operations in Washington, D.C., have resulted in over 300 arrests, including a significant number of undocumented immigrants, and the deployment of more than 1,500 National Guard troops. This surge of federal intervention raises serious concerns about civil liberties, community trust, and the targeting of vulnerable populations.

The recent deployment of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., has led to the arrest of over 300 individuals in just ten days, with nearly half of those arrested being undocumented immigrants. This aggressive enforcement strategy, coupled with a heavy military presence, threatens the civil liberties of all D.C. residents and visitors, especially immigrants and communities of color.

While public safety is important, the use of militarized tactics and the targeting of undocumented individuals undermines community trust and creates fear, rather than safety. Studies have shown that crime in D.C. is already on the decline, calling into question the necessity and proportionality of this federal intervention.

We demand an immediate end to the militarization of our city, the withdrawal of federal troops, and the protection of the rights and dignity of all residents, regardless of immigration status. Community-based solutions, not federal crackdowns, are the path to true public safety and justice.
