Target: Google Inc. and its executive leadership
Goal: We call on Google to implement transparent, equitable, and accountable email filtering policies that do not discriminate against any political group or fundraising platform.
Our democracy relies on open and fair communication between political campaigns and the public. However, recent findings indicate that Gmail's spam filters are disproportionately flagging fundraising emails containing links to certain platforms, such as WinRed, while allowing others, like ActBlue, to reach inboxes without issue. These practices, whether intentional or not, can have a significant impact on political fundraising and voter engagement.
Algorithmic bias in email filtering not only threatens the integrity of the democratic process but also erodes public trust in essential digital communication platforms. We urge Google to take immediate action to ensure that its email filtering algorithms are transparent, equitable, and subject to independent review. All political organizations, regardless of affiliation, must have equal access to digital communication tools.
