As the war in Ukraine continues to inflict immense suffering and instability, we are alarmed by proposals that would force Ukraine to cede territory or accept limits on its military capacity. Such outcomes would reward aggression and set a dangerous precedent for international law and the rights of sovereign nations.
President Zelensky has repeatedly called for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for any meaningful peace talks, yet some negotiators have deprioritized this demand. Civilians in Donetsk and across Ukraine continue to face violence, displacement, and uncertainty. The international community must not pressure Ukraine into an unjust agreement or allow powerful actors to dictate terms that undermine Ukrainian sovereignty.
