Target: United States Attorney General, President of the United States, Governors of West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ohio
Goal: We demand an immediate end to the federal crackdown and the withdrawal of military forces from Washington, D.C., to protect civil rights and uphold democratic norms.
The recent surge in arrests and the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. mark a troubling escalation in federal policing and militarization of our city. According to both the Justice Department and the Metropolitan Police Department, crime in D.C. is at historic lows, undermining any justification for this show of force.
Such measures threaten the fundamental rights of residents and visitors, stifle peaceful protest, and set a dangerous precedent for the use of military power against civilians. The presence of armed troops and mass arrests do not make our communities safer—they undermine trust and erode the democratic principles upon which our country was founded.
We call on federal and state authorities to respect the rights of D.C. residents, end the crackdown, and immediately withdraw all military forces from our city.
