Target: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Heads of State
Goal: We call on the European Union to pursue an independent, diplomacy-first approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, prioritize peace over militarization, and redirect resources to social needs instead of the arms industry.
The recent exclusion of the EU from the US-Russia negotiations highlights a crisis of leadership and vision in Brussels. For years, the EU has followed a militarized, US-led approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, pouring billions into weapons and sanctions rather than championing diplomatic solutions. This has left European citizens paying the price through higher energy costs, economic instability, and a dangerous escalation of conflict on the continent.
Despite rhetoric about 'transatlantic unity' and a 'just and lasting peace,' the EU continues to prioritize the arms industry and military spending over investment in healthcare, education, and social welfare. The ongoing war has been used to justify austerity and the erosion of public services, while weapons manufacturers reap record profits.
We demand a new direction: an EU foreign policy rooted in peace, diplomacy, and the needs of ordinary people. The EU must reclaim its agency, stop outsourcing its security and diplomacy to external actors, and actively work toward a negotiated settlement in Ukraine that respects human rights and self-determination. Instead of building more weapons factories, the EU should invest in rebuilding communities, supporting refugees, and addressing the urgent social and environmental crises facing Europe today.
