Goal: We urge world leaders, humanitarian organizations, and governments to take decisive action to secure the safe return of all Ukrainian children taken by Russia and to hold those responsible for these violations accountable.
Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, reports indicate that nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly taken by Russian authorities, with some estimates reaching as high as 70,000. Many of these children have been sent to so-called 're-education camps' where they are pressured to abandon their Ukrainian identity and, in some cases, forced into military service.
This constitutes a grave violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The forced removal and indoctrination of children during armed conflict is a war crime and must not be tolerated by the global community.
We call on all relevant international bodies and governments to prioritize the safe return of these children, provide support for their reunification with families, and ensure accountability for those responsible. No political negotiation or diplomatic gesture should come at the expense of children's rights and safety.
