The recent summit between President Trump and President Putin in Alaska marks a critical moment in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. While the world seeks an end to the violence, we are alarmed by reports that Ukraine may be pressured to accept territorial losses and a 'freeze' of the conflict in exchange for security guarantees. Such arrangements risk legitimizing aggression and undermining international law.
Peace must not come at the expense of justice, democracy, or the will of the Ukrainian people. Any agreement reached without broad, democratic consultation in Ukraine sets a dangerous precedent and threatens the rights of all nations to self-determination. We urge all parties, including European leaders and the US government, to stand firmly for a just and democratic peace process.
Key Demands
- No peace agreement should be signed or enforced without the explicit, democratic consent of the Ukrainian people, including through a national referendum.
- Reject any settlement that requires Ukraine to cede territory under duress or as a result of foreign pressure.
