Target: President Joe Biden, European Union leaders, and the United Nations
Goal: Urge world leaders to reject any peace deal that forces Ukraine to surrender land it controls, and to implement strong security guarantees for Ukraine’s future.
As Russia continues its aggression in eastern Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has made clear that Ukraine will not cede territory it currently controls as part of any peace deal. Russia’s demand for Ukraine to withdraw from the entirety of the Donetsk region, including areas under Ukrainian administration, is an unacceptable violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Ukraine’s constitution prohibits the surrender or trade of its territory, and the international community must stand firm against any attempt to redraw borders by force. President Zelensky has called for real negotiations based on the current front line, with the involvement of the United States and Russia. However, Russia has shown little willingness to engage in such talks, and continues to escalate its demands.
We call on global leaders to support Ukraine’s right to self-determination, to reject any peace settlement that rewards aggression, and to provide Ukraine with meaningful security guarantees against future invasions. The world must not allow the precedent of territorial conquest to stand unchallenged.
