The latest diplomatic developments indicate that Russia may accept a peace deal involving territorial swaps and security guarantees for Ukraine, in exchange for Kyiv halting its NATO membership bid and recognizing Crimea as Russian territory. This proposal, reportedly brokered with US and European involvement, would reward aggression and violate Ukraine’s sovereignty.
History has shown that appeasing territorial conquest only emboldens future violations of international law. Any deal that forces Ukraine to accept the loss of Crimea, Donetsk, or Luhansk, or to abandon its democratic right to choose alliances, is unjust and unsustainable.
We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and demand that world leaders uphold the principles of the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and the right to self-determination. Peace must not come at the expense of justice or through coercion.
