Target: President Donald Trump, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Congress

Goal: To halt federal overreach in local law enforcement and support community-led strategies that have effectively reduced violent crime in cities led by Black mayors.

Recent actions by the federal government have undermined the autonomy of cities led by Black mayors, despite their proven success in reducing violent crime. The deployment of National Guard troops and threats of further intervention in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Oakland represent a dangerous precedent that ignores the expertise and accomplishments of local leaders.

Across the United States, cities led by Black mayors have achieved significant declines in violent crime through innovative, community-driven policies. Instead of recognizing and supporting these successes, the federal government has chosen to deploy National Guard troops and threaten further intervention, undermining local democracy and the progress made by these communities.

Top-down federal actions risk undoing the hard-won gains made by local leaders and erode trust between residents and law enforcement. We call on the federal government to respect local autonomy, end the militarization of our cities, and invest in proven community-based safety initiatives.

We demand an immediate halt to federal intervention in local policing, and a commitment to supporting the strategies developed by those who know their communities best.

Key Demands

Immediately cease deployment of National Guard and federal law enforcement personnel to cities without the explicit consent of local elected officials.
Recognize and publicly support the crime reduction strategies implemented by Black mayors and community leaders.
Redirect federal funding from militarized policing initiatives to community-based violence prevention and intervention programs.
Establish a federal task force to collaborate with local governments on best practices for public safety, prioritizing input from communities most affected by violence.
Ensure transparency and accountability for any federal involvement in local law enforcement activities.
