Target: Office of the High Representative, European Union, United Nations, and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Central Election Commission
Goal: We call on international and domestic authorities to respect Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty, restore democratic processes, and end the use of undemocratic foreign-imposed powers.
For nearly three decades since the Dayton Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina has struggled to build a functioning democracy amidst complex governance structures and foreign intervention. The recent removal of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, following a court decision and the use of the so-called 'Bonn Powers' by the foreign-appointed High Representative, has intensified the crisis.
These extraordinary powers, adopted in 1997, allow the High Representative to override domestic institutions, undermining the sovereignty and self-determination of the Bosnian people. Such actions have led to political paralysis, deepened ethnic divisions, and eroded trust in democratic processes. The imposition of sanctions and restrictions on political figures and their families further violates basic human rights and due process.
Despite aspirations for EU accession, Bosnia faces institutional gridlock, economic stagnation, and demographic decline. Only by restoring democratic norms, respecting sovereignty, and ending the use of undemocratic foreign-imposed mechanisms can Bosnia move towards a just and inclusive future.
