Target: President Joe Biden, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Ursula von der Leyen, US Congress, European Parliament, and all parties to Ukraine peace negotiations
Goal: We call for transparent, enforceable security guarantees for Ukraine, meaningful inclusion of Ukrainian civil society in negotiations, and a just peace process that prioritizes human rights and accountability.
The recent summit between US and Russian leaders has opened the door to new security guarantees for Ukraine, with Russia reportedly agreeing to allow the US and Europe to provide Article 5-like protections. However, the lack of detail and transparency raises serious concerns. Ukrainians have fought bravely for their sovereignty, democracy, and human rights. Any peace deal must not be imposed from above, nor should it trade away Ukrainian territory or justice for expediency.
We urge negotiators to ensure that security guarantees are concrete, binding, and fully transparent. Ukrainian civil society, victims of war, and frontline communities must have a seat at the table. The process must also address accountability for war crimes and ensure that any agreement upholds international law and the rights of all affected people.
Peace cannot come at the expense of justice or democracy. We demand that world leaders listen to the people of Ukraine and the global community to ensure a just and lasting peace.
