Target: President Joe Biden, the United States Congress, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and EU Member State Leaders
Goal: Ensure that any security guarantees for Ukraine are transparent, enforceable, and include a clear, accelerated path to European Union accession.
At the recent summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, reports indicate that Russia has agreed in principle to allow the US and European allies to offer Ukraine security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5. While this is a positive step, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted the lack of detail and enforceability in these proposed guarantees.
Ukraine’s sovereignty and security have been under constant threat due to ongoing Russian aggression. Any agreement that falls short of clear, binding commitments risks leaving Ukraine vulnerable and undermines the credibility of Western security promises. Additionally, EU accession is a core part of Ukraine’s security and democratic future, yet there is no explicit timeline or guarantee for this process.
We call on US and EU leaders to ensure that any security guarantees for Ukraine are not just symbolic, but concrete, transparent, and enforceable. Furthermore, the EU must commit to a clear, accelerated accession process for Ukraine as part of these guarantees. The Ukrainian people deserve genuine security and a democratic future within the European community.
