Target: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Goal: We urge the Department of Health and Human Services to immediately reinstate funding for mRNA vaccine research and to prioritize science-based public health policies.
The rapid development of mRNA vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic saved millions of lives worldwide, thanks to robust public investment and scientific innovation. mRNA technology has proven to be faster and, in many cases, more effective than traditional vaccine methods. Yet, the recent cancellation of nearly $500 million in research contracts threatens to halt this progress and leave us unprepared for future health crises.
While the dangers of ultra-processed foods and their link to chronic diseases are real and must be addressed, abandoning mRNA vaccine research is a step backward for public health. We need comprehensive strategies that tackle all major health threats, not policies that pit one crisis against another.
We call on the Department of Health and Human Services to restore funding for mRNA research, support evidence-based vaccine development, and implement stronger regulations on ultra-processed foods to protect our communities.
