While some leaders push for a rapid peace agreement, many fear that such a deal would fail to address the root causes of the conflict and could leave Ukraine vulnerable to future aggression. European nations must not allow the pressure for a quick resolution to override the need for a just and lasting peace, built on real security guarantees and accountability for violations of international law. We call on European governments to:
- Reject any peace deal that does not include strong, enforceable security guarantees for Ukraine.
- Prioritize the voices and rights of Ukrainians in all negotiations.
- Ensure that any agreement holds Russia accountable for its actions and provides justice for victims of war crimes.
- Work in solidarity with international partners to uphold international law and human rights.
Only through a principled and people-centered approach can Europe help secure a future of peace and justice for Ukraine and the region.
