Target: Governor Joe Lombardo, Nevada State Legislature, and Nevada Republican Party leadership
Goal: Prevent the creation of a new immigrant detention facility in Nevada and demand that state leaders address the true economic and social needs of Nevadans.
We, the undersigned, call on Nevada's elected officials to reject the proposal for a so-called 'Coyote Compound'—an immigrant detention facility modeled after Florida's notorious 'Alligator Alcatraz.' This ill-conceived plan does nothing to address Nevada's real issues: high unemployment, declining tourism, and underfunded public services. Instead, it scapegoats immigrants, distracts from policy failures, and opens the door to profiteering by private prison corporations.
Diverting public attention and resources to build a new detention center is not only ineffective but also cruel and costly. Nevada's economic woes cannot be blamed on immigrants. We urge our leaders to invest in solutions that support working families, strengthen our economy, and uphold the dignity of all residents—regardless of immigration status.
