Goal: We call on the U.S. government to immediately remove the 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods, restore fair trade relations, and respect Brazil’s sovereignty and judicial independence.
In August, the U.S. government imposed 50% tariffs on key Brazilian exports, citing political motivations rather than economic necessity. These punitive measures directly harm Brazilian farmers, workers, and communities—undermining a longstanding partnership between our nations. President Lula of Brazil has called for dialogue and mutual understanding, emphasizing Brazil's commitment to peace, culture, and international friendship. The tariffs were justified by U.S. officials with reference to Brazil’s judicial process against former president Jair Bolsonaro, interfering in Brazil’s sovereign right to uphold the rule of law. Such actions set a dangerous precedent of using economic power to influence another country’s internal affairs.
We stand in solidarity with the Brazilian people and demand an end to these unjust tariffs. Trade policy should not be weaponized for political purposes. Instead, it should foster cooperation, economic justice, and respect for human rights and democracy. Let us plant seeds of solidarity, not division.
