Target: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of External Affairs
Goal: We call upon the Government of India to take a firm stand against unfair U.S. trade practices, defend the rights of Indian farmers and workers, and ensure that international agreements do not compromise our food security, employment, and economic independ
Recent actions by the U.S. government, including the imposition of steep tariffs on Indian goods and additional penalties for importing Russian oil, threaten the livelihoods of millions of Indian farmers, workers, and small businesses. These measures undermine India's economic sovereignty and disproportionately hurt our most vulnerable communities.
The recent announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods, along with an additional 25% penalty for importing Russian oil, is a direct attack on India's economic sovereignty and the well-being of our farmers, workers, and small businesses. These punitive measures are designed to pressure India into opening up its agriculture and dairy sectors to U.S. corporations, which would devastate local producers and undermine food security.
We applaud the Government of India's stated commitment to standing with farmers and resisting external pressure. However, words must be matched with action. We urge the Indian government to:
- Reject any trade deal that compromises the interests of Indian farmers, fishers, and workers.
- Strengthen protections for local agriculture, dairy, and fisheries sectors against foreign corporate exploitation.
- Invest in public programs that create dignified, sustainable employment for youth and rural communities.
- Promote self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) by supporting small-scale producers, cooperatives, and worker-owned enterprises.
- Engage in international solidarity with other nations facing similar economic bullying.
We stand united in demanding a just, equitable, and sovereign economic future for all Indians.
Key Demands
- Reject any trade agreement that undermines the rights and livelihoods of Indian farmers, fishers, and workers.
- Protect India's agriculture, dairy, and fisheries sectors from unfair foreign competition and corporate exploitation.
- Increase public investment in sustainable, dignified employment opportunities for youth and rural communities.
- Support self-reliance by empowering small-scale producers, cooperatives, and worker-owned enterprises.
- Build international alliances to resist economic coercion and promote fair trade.
