Recent reports suggest that diplomatic pressure is mounting on Ukraine to accept a so-called 'peace plan' that would require giving up large swathes of its territory, abandoning hopes of joining NATO or the EU, and disarming its military—all in exchange for a fragile ceasefire and the lifting of sanctions on Russia. Such a plan would reward aggression, legitimize the illegal annexation of Ukrainian land, and set a dangerous precedent for international relations.
History has shown that so-called 'guarantees' of security are worthless when not backed by real commitment and accountability. Ukrainians have already paid a heavy price for defending their freedom and democracy. Any peace agreement must be based on justice, respect for Ukraine's territorial integrity, and the will of its people—not the interests of foreign powers or the ambitions of autocrats.
