Goal: Urge Governor DeWine to immediately recall the Ohio National Guard from Washington, D.C. and commit to protecting the right to peaceful protest.
We are deeply concerned by Governor DeWine’s decision to deploy 150 Ohio National Guard military police to Washington, D.C. in support of federal policing actions. The use of military personnel in response to civic demonstrations undermines the constitutional rights of free speech and assembly. Ohio’s National Guard should serve the people of Ohio, not be used to police citizens in other states or suppress protest.
This deployment diverts critical resources away from our own communities and sets a dangerous precedent for the militarization of public spaces. We call on Governor DeWine to immediately recall the Ohio National Guard from Washington, D.C. and to prioritize the protection of civil liberties and local needs.
