Stop the Devastating Federal Budget Cuts to Healthcare, Housing, and Food Assistance

Related Article: Officials meet in Santa Clara to discuss impacts of federal budget - cbsnews.com - Saturday, August 16, 2025, 8:52:38 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Target: United States Congress

Goal: Urge Congress to immediately reverse the federal budget cuts to Medicaid, housing, and food assistance, and to halt the expansion of funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The recently passed federal budget threatens the well-being of millions in Santa Clara County and across the nation, slashing essential services while increasing funding for harmful immigration enforcement. We must act now to protect our communities from these catastrophic cuts.

Santa Clara County, the most diverse county in the Bay Area, is facing unprecedented threats to its healthcare system and social safety net due to the new federal budget law. This law drastically reduces Medicaid funding, which supports the county's hospitals and provides critical care for low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. These cuts will result in crowded emergency rooms, longer wait times, and preventable deaths.

Meanwhile, the budget increases funding for ICE, further endangering immigrant communities and diverting resources from essential services. Cuts to housing and food assistance will push more people into homelessness and hunger, while the most vulnerable—including people with disabilities—will lose life-saving support.

Local and state governments cannot fill the gap left by these massive federal cuts. We demand that Congress take immediate action to reverse these harmful policies and prioritize the health and dignity of all people over punitive enforcement and austerity.
