Goal: We call on DC officials to immediately halt all collaboration between the Metropolitan Police Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and to restore policies that protect immigrant residents.
In the wake of federal intervention in Washington, D.C.'s police operations, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has issued an order permitting officers to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in detaining and transporting undocumented immigrants. This policy undermines trust between immigrant communities and local law enforcement, increases the risk of racial profiling, and subjects residents to deportation for minor infractions or even for seeking help from police.
DC has a proud history as a sanctuary city, committed to protecting all residents regardless of immigration status. This directive reverses progress and puts thousands of families at risk. We demand that DC's elected officials and police leadership reaffirm the city's commitment to immigrant rights, resist federal overreach, and ensure that local resources are not used to further harmful immigration enforcement actions.
