Target: Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez, the Florida Legislature, and the U.S. Supreme Court
Goal: We call on Florida lawmakers and the Supreme Court to uphold marriage equality and ensure fair, non-partisan congressional maps.
Across South Florida, concerned citizens are protesting threats to hard-won rights and democratic principles. The potential overturning of legalized same-sex marriage would strip countless couples of their dignity and legal protections. As John McNeice, who married his husband in 2014, said, "We all have a right to be who we are and live the life we want to live."
At the same time, attempts to redraw congressional districts threaten to undermine fair representation. Gerrymandering disenfranchises voters and distorts our democracy. As Jennifer Jones noted, "For my wife and I, it would mean we don't exist anymore." The people of Florida deserve a government that reflects their will, not partisan interests.
We demand that our leaders defend marriage equality and commit to fair, transparent redistricting processes. Stand with us to protect our rights and our democracy.
