Target: United States Congress, NOAA, and International Climate Policy Leaders
Goal: We call on the United States Congress, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and international partners to take urgent action to address the root causes of climate change and to invest in disaster preparedness for vulnerable Caribbea
Hurricane Erin has rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm, threatening the Caribbean with flash floods, landslides, and life-threatening surf. This is not an isolated event: scientists agree that rising sea temperatures, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, are making hurricanes more intense and unpredictable. Meanwhile, critical agencies like NOAA have faced budget cuts and layoffs, undermining our ability to forecast and respond to these disasters.
Communities in the Caribbean, as well as coastal areas in the United States, are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. They deserve robust support, accurate forecasting, and meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We cannot afford to wait while storms grow stronger and more frequent. We demand immediate action to protect lives, livelihoods, and our shared future.
