Goal: We call on federal and state officials to immediately halt the militarization of Washington, D.C., respect the District's right to self-governance, and prioritize community-based public safety solutions.
Washington, D.C. has seen a dangerous escalation in federal intervention, with hundreds of National Guard troops mobilized and armed, and attempts to override local control of the police department. These actions are justified by misleading claims about crime rates, despite federal data showing that violent crime in D.C. is at its lowest in over 30 years.
The Trump administration's efforts to federalize D.C. police and deploy out-of-state troops violate the principle of Home Rule and set a precedent for authoritarian overreach. The people of D.C. deserve the right to govern their own city and determine their own public safety policies without the threat of militarization or outside interference.
We demand an immediate end to the deployment of armed National Guard troops in D.C., a halt to all attempts to override local police authority, and a commitment to invest in proven, community-based approaches to public safety. Stand with D.C. residents in defending democracy and local control.
