Target: Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Donald Trump, and International Partners
Goal: We call on world leaders, including the U.S. and Canadian governments, to prioritize Ukrainian self-determination and ensure any peace process centers the needs and demands of the Ukrainian people.
The war in Ukraine has caused immense suffering and displacement. While recent talks between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin have been framed as 'creating the opportunity' to end the conflict, these negotiations excluded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and failed to produce a ceasefire or a roadmap for peace.
We are concerned that decisions about Ukraine’s future are being made without full participation from Ukrainians themselves. True peace cannot be achieved through top-down agreements that ignore the voices of those most affected.
Canada and its partners have expressed support for Ukrainian self-determination, but this must be more than rhetoric. Diplomatic efforts should be reinforced by meaningful engagement with Ukrainian civil society, protection of human rights, and a commitment to justice for victims of aggression.
We urge all governments involved to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty, uphold international law, and ensure that any peace process is inclusive, transparent, and just.
