The recent federalization of Washington, DC's local police and the deployment of National Guard troops from West Virginia and other states represent a dangerous escalation in the militarization of our nation's capital. This intervention, justified by claims of restoring 'order' and 'beauty,' undermines the limited self-government that DC residents have fought hard to obtain.
