Goal: We call on US Vice President J.D. Vance, President Donald Trump, and all involved parties to ensure that any peace talks with Ukraine and Russia are transparent, democratic, and prioritize the rights and safety of Ukrainian people.
On Monday, President Trump and Vice President Vance will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, following recent talks between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These high-stakes negotiations will shape the future of Ukraine and the security of Europe.
We are deeply concerned that these discussions are happening behind closed doors, with little public accountability or input from Ukrainian civil society. The people of Ukraine, who have endured years of violence and displacement, deserve a seat at the table and a guarantee that their rights and sovereignty will not be bargained away in secret deals.
Peace cannot be achieved by sacrificing justice or democratic principles. We urge US leaders to ensure that any agreement is transparent, respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and is developed in consultation with Ukrainian representatives and international human rights organizations.
