Target: U.S. Congress, State Legislatures, City Councils, and National Media Outlets
Goal: To urge elected officials, media outlets, and community leaders to reject scapegoating and fear-based policies, and instead implement humane, effective approaches to public safety, immigration, and social well-being.
In recent months, political leaders and media figures have intensified rhetoric that blames immigrants, unhoused people, and marginalized communities for complex social issues. This approach distracts from real solutions and fuels policies that harm, rather than help, our communities.
Deploying military forces in cities, criminalizing poverty, and undermining due process do not address the root causes of crime or social instability. Instead, these tactics perpetuate cycles of violence, erode civil liberties, and disproportionately impact Black, Brown, and immigrant communities.
We demand a pivot toward policies that are grounded in data, compassion, and respect for human rights. This includes investing in community-based violence prevention, expanding social services, protecting the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, and ensuring fair treatment in the justice system.
We call on our leaders to reject fear-mongering and scapegoating, and instead champion policies that foster safety, dignity, and opportunity for all.
