Demand Real Accountability and Protection for Ukraine in Peace Negotiations

The recent summit in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not produce a ceasefire in Ukraine, despite months of pressure and ongoing violence. Instead, President Trump has shifted his administration's focus to securing a 'full peace agreement,' sidelining immediate calls for a halt to hostilities.

We are deeply concerned that this approach risks sidelining Ukrainian voices and could lead to an agreement that prioritizes political expediency over justice, accountability, and human rights. The Ukrainian people have faced immense suffering due to Russia's ongoing aggression, and any peace process must be transparent, inclusive, and grounded in international law.

We call on all parties to ensure that future negotiations:

• Include Ukrainian civil society and human rights defenders at the table;
• Uphold Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity;
• Hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable;
• Guarantee the safety and rights of displaced persons and refugees;
• Reject any agreement that legitimizes aggression or undermines international law.
