Target: US President, South Korean President, Indian Prime Minister, and relevant trade ministers
Goal: We call on the governments of South Korea, India, and the United States to renegotiate these trade deals to ensure fairness, mutual benefit, and respect for all workers and communities impacted by these tariffs.
The recently announced trade deal between South Korea and the United States is being hailed as a 'win-win' by officials, but the reality is far more complex. The agreement imposes a 15% tariff on South Korean exports to the US, while exempting American goods from similar tariffs. At the same time, the US has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, citing India's continued imports of Russian oil. These punitive tariffs disproportionately harm workers, small businesses, and consumers in South Korea and India, while reinforcing the economic dominance of the United States.
Trade should be based on principles of fairness, mutual respect, and shared prosperity. Instead, these deals deepen global inequality, undermine local industries, and set a dangerous precedent for future trade relations. We urge all parties to return to the negotiating table and craft agreements that uplift all communities, protect workers’ rights, and address the urgent need for economic justice in a rapidly changing world.
