The recent summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin yielded no tangible progress toward peace in Ukraine, while the administration touts revived U.S.-Russia relations and better trade prospects. However, this comes amid troubling domestic developments: the federalization of D.C.'s police force and deployment of National Guard troops, raising alarm about the erosion of civil liberties and the normalization of military presence in civilian life.
Additionally, the administration's aggressive tariff policies are contributing to economic uncertainty, and the exclusion of undocumented immigrants from the census threatens constitutional rights and representation. The current approach to foreign policy, characterized by secretive summits and lack of transparency, undermines public trust and global stability.
We urge Congress to act now to restore democratic norms, uphold human rights, and ensure that U.S. policies are guided by diplomacy, not authoritarianism or militarization.
