Target: Mayor of Washington, D.C., D.C. City Council, Metropolitan Police Department
Goal: We urge D.C. leaders to stand up for our community by rejecting mandatory cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and preserving local control over policing policies.
The District of Columbia has long prided itself on its commitment to protecting immigrant communities and maintaining local control over law enforcement. However, a new order from Attorney General Pam Bondi, following a settlement with the Trump administration, now requires the D.C. police to cooperate with the White House's immigration policy. This undermines the city's autonomy and threatens the safety and trust of immigrant residents. Mandatory cooperation with federal immigration enforcement can lead to racial profiling, erode trust between police and the community, and make our neighborhoods less safe. We call on our city leaders and police department to resist these federal mandates and prioritize the needs and rights of all D.C. residents.
