Target: Federal Election Commission (FEC), United States Congress
Goal: We call on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Congress to take immediate action to close loopholes in campaign finance regulations, ensure transparency in fundraising, and protect the public's right to fair and open elections.
Joint fundraising committees (JFCs) were originally intended to allow candidates and party organizations to collaborate on fundraising within the boundaries of campaign finance law. However, recent strategies—particularly by Senate Republican campaigns—have exploited JFCs to circumvent contribution limits, purchase cheaper advertising rates, and obscure the true sources and amounts of campaign funds. This practice not only undermines transparency but also erodes public trust in our electoral system.
By embedding fundraising requests in campaign ads and sharing funds across multiple entities, candidates can mask lackluster fundraising performance and blur the lines between direct campaign support and outside spending. The Federal Election Commission's inaction and regulatory deadlock have emboldened these tactics, setting a dangerous precedent for future elections.
We demand urgent reform to restore integrity, transparency, and fairness to our campaign finance system. The FEC and Congress must act to close these loopholes, enforce clear reporting standards, and ensure that all political fundraising is subject to meaningful oversight.
