Target: US President, UK Prime Minister, European Union leaders, United Nations Secretary-General
Goal: We call on world leaders to reject any process that rewards aggression or sidelines Ukraine, and to take decisive action to support Ukrainian sovereignty and justice for victims of war.
The Alaska summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin was billed as a step toward peace. However, the outcome has alarmed foreign affairs and security experts, who warn that the main effect has been to grant Putin international legitimacy while offering no tangible progress toward ending the war in Ukraine.
Putin’s regime, responsible for the 2022 invasion and ongoing atrocities, was treated as an equal partner while Ukraine’s elected leadership was marginalized. Trump’s praise for Russia and lack of concrete demands for withdrawal or accountability send a dangerous message: that military aggression and war crimes can be rewarded with a seat at the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, European leaders risk complacency, and the transatlantic alliance is further weakened—one of Russia’s explicit goals. As Green MP Ellie Chowns and others have stated, any peace process that excludes Ukraine’s full participation and consent is doomed to fail and only emboldens aggressors.
We demand that world leaders stand firm against attempts to normalize or legitimize Russia’s invasion. Justice, accountability, and Ukrainian sovereignty must be non-negotiable. Anything less is a betrayal of international law and the people of Ukraine.
