Target: U.S. Congress, Department of Labor, Environmental Protection Agency, State Governors
Goal: We call on local, state, and federal officials to take urgent action to protect public health and ensure climate justice in the face of extreme heat and humidity.
Extreme heat waves and high humidity are not just uncomfortable—they are deadly. Scientists and meteorologists have warned that air masses 'sitting and festering' are creating record-high dew points, pushing up heat indexes and making it harder for people—especially those in marginalized communities and essential jobs—to cool off, rest, and recover.
Climate change is making these events more frequent and severe, and government action is urgently needed. We must prioritize the health and safety of workers, the elderly, children, and all those at risk. This means enacting strong workplace protections, investing in cooling centers, and accelerating the transition to clean energy to address the root causes of climate change.
