However, the push for a swift peace settlement risks sidelining Ukrainian agency and justice for those affected by the conflict. Any negotiations that do not prioritize Ukrainian sovereignty and accountability for war crimes undermine the principles of international law and human rights.
We urge European leaders to take bolder steps to ensure that:
- Ukraine's territorial integrity is non-negotiable and must be protected.
- Ukrainian voices, especially those of civil society and victims, are central to any peace process.
- Humanitarian aid and support for refugees are expanded.
- Sanctions against Russia are strengthened and enforced until there is a verifiable end to aggression and accountability for violations.
- International mechanisms are established to investigate and prosecute war crimes committed during the conflict.
Now is the time for meaningful action that prioritizes justice, peace, and the rights of the Ukrainian people.
