Goal: We call on both governments to prioritize transparency, peace, and the well-being of ordinary people in all future negotiations and agreements.
The recent joint news conference between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump underscored the long history of cooperation and shared sacrifice between the peoples of Russia and the United States. While both leaders emphasized productive talks and mutual respect, the public remains largely in the dark about the details of these negotiations.
Too often, high-level talks prioritize the interests of elites and business representatives over the needs of ordinary people. The legacy of cooperation—such as during World War II—should inspire a new era of diplomacy based on transparency, demilitarization, and the prioritization of human rights and environmental protection.
We demand that future US-Russia negotiations be conducted with full public oversight, that peace and justice take precedence over military and corporate interests, and that the voices of affected communities are included in all discussions.
