Target: U.S. Government, President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and all parties involved in Ukraine peace negotiations
Goal: Ensure that any negotiations toward peace in Ukraine are transparent, involve meaningful participation from Ukrainian civil society, and uphold international law and human rights.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has resulted in immense suffering, displacement, and loss of life. While diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are welcome, we are concerned that closed-door meetings—especially those led by individuals with a history of controversial diplomacy—risk sidelining the Ukrainian people and their legitimate representatives.
Peace cannot be imposed from above or brokered behind closed doors. It must be built on justice, accountability, and the active involvement of those most affected by the war. We urge all parties to commit to a transparent negotiation process that centers the voices of Ukrainian civil society, upholds human rights, and ensures any agreement is consistent with international law.
